Frenectomy

Frenectomies sound more complicated than they are. There is no reason to be intimidated by this dental procedure, especially when it is performed by Oakridge Dental Group. The procedure removes connective tissue along the bottom or top of the mouth. In particular, the connective tissue under the upper gums or tongue is removed. Our dentist typically performs frenectomies on kids who are dealing with specific orthodontic, eating or speech issues.

There are two primary types of frenectomies. The lingual frenectomy procedure removes tissue that connects to the tongue’s underside and the floor of the mouth. The maxillary frenectomy procedure eliminates the connective tissue that is between the front teeth and upper gums. However, frenectomies are not limited to kids. Technological advances in the dental industry have made this procedure quite safe and quick for patients of all ages.
